Another weekend spent topping up the Pike Flies for my day of next week!!!

These flies were done with mostly Deer Creek www.deercreek.co.uk materials with some Piketrek hooks and stuff.
The left hand flies were made using the following materials:
Piketrek O' Shaunnessy 3/0 hook
Gliss 'n' Glint Snow White
Gliss 'n' Glint Chartreusse
Mono thread and red floss for the head.
The eyes I think came from Piketrek but can't remember!!
The head was coated with Bug Bond and a coating of Sally Hansen.

the Pink thing was done using:
Piketrek hook as above
Gliss 'n' Glint Snow White
Piketrek Natural Colours 'Dogs Lipstick'
Spectrum Fibre - Harmony Angel
Pink Floss and Mono thread
finished as above.

The Roach (sort of!)

Hook as above
Piketrek Opal White
Piketrek Roach Blue
Piketrek Roachfin Orange
Harmony Angel
Crystal Flash Blue for the lateral line
Piketrek Roach eyes
Good old Bug Bond to finish!

Looking forward to trying these flies out next week on a couple of the gravel pits in the Cotswold Water park!

I've been having a play with a nymph to see what happens when you put legs on one!

I made a standard hares ear type (I used squirrel though!) nymph with a 2.8mm Black Tungsten bead and added a couple of legs to put a bit of movement and silhouette into it.
I think it could have done with a bit more squirrel round the head.
The legs sat well behind the thorax and I think looked good in the end.

Now, to how it fishes!
I went out for a couple of hours last Sunday onto the River Colne on the Bull Hotel stretch at Fairford.
Damn cold it was, but the water was clear and running well.
Tried it on point with a small pink necked nymph on the dropper.
The fly did look good in the water and if putting a small amount of movement into the fly the legs 'jig' about.

after a couple of hours moving about to different swims I believe it could have done with a bigger bead to get it down but I did a get a couple of takes on it from small Grayling.

No conclusions on whether the legs are of much use. Will try again when the water is a little slower (if the rain ever stops!!).

And back to the bench to improve and add more weight.
